Dear WestCoast Community:

Children are bought and sold for sex every night throughout California. Most go unnoticed. We know from our research that exploited youth are abused for 2 to 3 years before anyone recognizes it. In response, WestCoast developed a brief screening tool to help professionals see the signs of exploitation and intervene earlier.

Social workers, educators and doctors are piloting the Commercial Sexual Exploitation – Identification Tool (CSE-IT) in more than 25 community organizations from the Bay Area to Los Angeles. Something as simple as 10 questions can prevent prolonged abuse for thousands of kids.

When the pilot is complete, the CSE-IT will be the first evidence-based identification tool for child sexual exploitation.
